The Moreland Zebras Soccer Club is ready to serve up a win at Balfe Park this season, with the club’s change rooms and facilities recently given a complete makeover.
The project, which was funded by Council and the State Government along with contributions from the club, included an extensive refurbishment of the outdated change rooms, completely new accessible toilets, a viewing area and an extension and refurbishment of the kitchen.
Moreland Mayor Cr Helen Davidson joined members of the club and community at Balfe Park and said the refurbishment would go a long way in accommodating increasing demands for good soccer venues in Moreland.
“Council is encouraging our community to be more active, more often, and part of encouraging participation is making sure our recreation facilities provide for all participants,” said Cr Davidson.
“This refurbishment provides the Brunswick Zebras with a solid foundation to build on their soccer club memberships."
“As a sporting nation, Australia has many potential world champions just waiting for an opportunity to engage in sport. There is a real possibility that a child coming to this pitch to practice, train and play, may in 10 years emerge as an Australian soccer champion.”
Balfe Park is located at 54-62 John Street, Brunswick East.
